GAME DESCRIPTION
They were called "The Mighty Eighth", the US Army Air Force 8th Bomber Command the flew daylight missions over occupied Europe, striking at strategic military targets with pinpoint accuracy. The B-17 Flying Fortress "The Mighty Eighth: grabs all the latest revolution 3D graphics technology to recreate that period in history, and give you total control of every aspect of this strategic air war (including the opposition). Take command of one B-17, or a whole squadron of twelve flying in full battle formation, with 10 or 120 crewmen under your care, or slip into the shoes of an individual crew member. Plan strategic missions based upon reconnaissance information you have requested. Fly the escort aircraft, or even one of the Luftwaffe fighters who is determined to shoot down the B-17's.
Experience the mayhem of flak and cannon fire as the pilot or co-pilot. Assume the position of the Bombardier, and identify the target by setting up data into and controlling the revolutionary Norden Bombsight. As the Navigator your task will be to get the B-17 to the target and back home using your detailed maps. Also, providing vital wind drift information to the Bombardier. As Radio Operator you will have charge of messages to and from the bomber. Finally, as Gunner you have the job of defending the aircraft, scanning the skies, spotting incoming enemy aircraft and bring them down with the aid of tracer rounds linked into the belts of ammunition. Each crewmember has an AI which decides the individuals skills, characteristics and behavior for life like realism.
On the ground each crew member has his own personnel file which contains proficieny reports, mission histories, injuries sustained, and medals earned. Medals and promotions are awarded through a points system that reflects the achievements of each individual.
